Step 1: Jot down your birth date

Everyone’s Life Path Number starts with their birthday. As an example, we’ll use the date February 14th, 1985. So write down your birth date, separating the month, day, and year into separate parts like this:

Easy, right?

Step 2: Do some addition

The second step is adding together all of your birth date’s numbers.

To put it simply, you need to add all of the individual numbers within each number. If your birth year is 1952, you would add 1 + 9 + 5 + 2.

The important thing to remember is that these need to only be 1 digit. After adding 1952, we get 17, which needs to be reduced. So we add it again — 1 + 7 to get the single digit number 8.

NOTE: There is an exception to reducing the number. The only numbers that don’t get reduced are 11, 22, and 33. These are called Master Numbers, and they are said to represent significant purpose or drive.

Let’s do it using our example:

2 = 2

14 = 1 + 4 = 5

1985 = 1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 23 (then, reduce it again) 23 = 2 + 3 = 5

Can’t I Just Add Them All At Once?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: the three categories (day, month, year) relate to Life Period Cycles. Each category represents something different in your life. One symbolizes the challenges you may face. Another represents meaning in your life, and the last stands for how you will grow throughout your life.

Adding them all together at once leaves out this meaning!

You’ve calculated your totals for your day, month, and year. Nothing too scary so far, and it even gets a little simpler from here on out.

Now, take all of your totals. In our example, we’ve got:

All you need to do is add them together! Make sure you reduce any two digit numbers like we did before.

2 + 5 + 5 = 12 (then, reduce it again) 12 = 1 + 2 = 3

So, the date of February 14th, 1985 corresponds to a Life Path Number of 3.
